POSITION OVERVIEW

St. Anthony’s is looking for a full-time Chief Marketing & Communications Officer to join their executive team and revolutionize their marketing program. 

This high-performing, seasoned marketing professional will work in partnership with CEO Nils Behnke to elevate St Anthony’s brand, strengthen its message, and deepen its reputation to meet its ambitious business plans and ever-more urgent mission.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, visionary marketer with a hybrid mix of strengths across the marketing spectrum: a brilliant brand strategist; an agile, news-savvy PR powerhouse able to leverage their media connections and talk with partners, agencies, and city officials with equal confidence; a master storyteller and content creator; and a data-driven digital expert.

The Chief Marketing and Communications Officer is a pivotal role at a pivotal time in the history of St Anthony's and its commitment to helping people in need in San Francisco's Tenderloin. This is an exciting growth opportunity for a candidate who believes in the mission and can bring excellence and entrepreneurial thinking across the Foundation to build relationships, connect hearts and minds, and drive lasting change.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The posting reports to CEO Nils Behnke and currently manages a team of two: Visual Communications Associate and Marketing Lead. We are looking to expand the marketing team. The position is a member of the executive team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the marketing department and develop strategic integrated marketing plans for new/existing markets to meet the foundation-wide and program-specific goals.

  • Spearhead St. Anthony’s brand identity development, including competitive positioning, audience definition, voice, narrative, and key messages, and all visual branding elements.

  • Implement brand systems and champion St. Anthony’s brand guidelines best practices internally and externally.

  • Build a PR and communications roadmap that creates a year-round narrative about St. Anthony’s, bringing to life its work, guests, partners, impact and more, across channels.

  • Direct and help implement tactics across all communication channels externally (PR, website, email, social media, promotional materials, communications outreach) and internally (Town Halls, newsletter, SharePoint).

  • Be the voice of St Anthony’s – act as a spokesperson with the press and at events; establish a media network; write and pitch press releases, news, events, etc.

  • Provide thought-leadership, insights, and market analysis to the CEO and Executive Team to help drive innovative thinking and problem-solving.

  • Collaborate with development, mission, and other departments to plan and promote major events and campaigns to maximize their impact and fundraising opportunities.

  • Lead the Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system consolidation, integration, and data analysis efforts to understand constituents and develop segmented approaches to building relationships with existing and new audiences.

  • Identify SF-based partnerships, events, webinars, and other speaking forums to reach opinion leaders, bolster news coverage, and raise St. Anthony’s profile.

  • Provide strategic leadership to promote and communicate St. Anthony’s programs to internal and external audiences.

  • Communicate St Anthony’s commitment to fair wages, job and professional development, and organizational excellence to increase talent.

  • As budget and needs develop, recruit, onboard, and mentor the marketing team.

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field/discipline from an accredited college or university required or equivalent work experience. Graduate degree in marketing, a plus

  • Minimum 10 years’ managing a marketing/communications/PR team in a similar role

  • A deep understanding of multi-channel marketing, with the proven success of revolutionizing marketing programs and developing new brand guidelines from scratch

  • Relevant nonprofit industry experience a plus, but not necessary; social enterprise marketing and business development a plus

  • Highly articulate communicator with excellent writing, pitch, and presentation skills and proven success communicating to a variety of audiences

  • PR expert with reliable local/regional press relationships

    A thorough understanding of San Francisco and its stakeholders; government relations experience a bonus

  • Ability to successfully work in an organization with a strong culture and be a leading advocate for change and getting things done while honoring the past

  • Uplifting, social, and emotionally mature leader with the ability to build trust and inspire team members

  • Nimble, resourceful, self-starter who has shown entrepreneurial drive and real results

  • Understanding of software applications: Microsoft Office and Google Suite, Salesforce, Blackbaud, and social media management tools; design/photo editing skills a plus

SALARY, BENEFITS & REQUIREMENTS

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $175,000 plus full benefits.

St. Anthony’s offers a robust benefits package including Medical, Vision, Dental, Life, and Disability insurance; Generous vacation, sick, and holidays including three weeks (120 hours) vacation for the first year, increasing to five weeks (200 hours) by the fifth year; Employee Assistance Plan; Employee 403(b) tax-deferred contribution available immediately. St. Anthony’s will contribute 5% of your base salary after one year and 1000 hours of service.
