When Congregation Rodef Sholom was founded in 1956, one of the founders suggested the name Rodef Sholom because it was the name of his childhood synagogue. In fact, there are synagogues all over the world that bear this name -- in New York, Ohio, Denver and even in India! The term Rodef Sholom derives from the passage in Pirke Avot, the first section of the Mishnah, written in 250 CE.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Development will be responsible for successfully completing the current capital campaign and overseeing all aspects of advancement including managing the department, annual giving, planned giving, major and leadership gifts, communications and foundation and corporate partnerships.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The position reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board of Directors, senior leadership, clergy, and volunteers. The position currently manages a development associate.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

●  In close coordination with the Board, Campaign Committee, and Clergy, complete the capital campaign by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors to
raise the remaining $6M.

● Manage all aspects of development, including annual “tradition of giving” campaign, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, and work
with campaign leadership and the senior team to complete the capital campaign.

● Cultivate, solicit and steward Rodef Sholom’s major gifts portfolio of donors and prospects capable of giving $100,000 or more and leadership gifts portfolio
of donors and prospects capable of giving $500,000 or more.

● Excellent stewardship and relationship management experiences

● Work closely with the President and Board of Directors to strategically manage and solicit major and leadership gift donors, including solicitations for the
capital campaign.

● Provide expertise and staffing for the President, Board of Directors, and congregation staff to establish short- and long-term advancement goals, strategies,
and objectives to achieve growth and sustainable resource outcomes.

● Oversee, manage, and monitor Shulcloud database functions, including accountability for integrity of its data.

● Manage development staff and encourage education and growth.

● Facilitate and coordinate foundation/corporation cultivation, research, and proposals.

● Work closely with prospects, donors, volunteers, and board members to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward their gifts.

● Establish and maintain best practices as it relates to policies, systems, and procedures.

● Attend and support services and congregational events on a regular basis.

● Represent the synagogue to its various constituencies.

● Perform additional duties as requested by the President.

QUALIFICATION

● Five or more years of progressively challenging experience with quantifiable results in all areas of fundraising (identification, cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship)

● Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree, or equivalent lived experiences

● Advanced fundraising certification, preferred

● Excellent management skills

● Demonstrated and creative problem-solver

● Strong capital campaign experience required

● Congregation fundraising experience desirable

● Strong CRM experience; Shulcloud preferred

● Technologically savvy with social media and digital media

● Experience working with congregants preferred

● Proven success in major gifts identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, annual fund and staff management

● Ability to manage complex project budgets and monitor expenses

● Ability to be highly organized, efficient, and effective in task and time management

● Ability to manage multiple projects

● Excellent personnel management experience and organizational skills

● Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers, Board members, and volunteers

● Exceptional written and verbal communications skills

● Experience making presentations to audiences

SALARY OR SALARY RANGE

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 plus full benefits.
